Men going to battleThere is a spiritual battle raging all around us. As Christian men and husbands, we would be fools to forget this fact as I believe many of us have done. I know I have. This is a battle for our minds, marriages, and ultimately our effectiveness for the gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to be aware now, more than ever and we need to be preparing ourselves so that we do not lose this battle.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.” – 2 Peter 1:5-9

The story of David is a perfect example of what can happen when we forsake that battle at hand. I think King David fell so hard with bathsheba because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be. 2 Samuel chapter 11 says “Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle…”. When Kings go to battle!

David was supposed to be fully suited in armor leading his valiant men on the front lines in battle and not on the rooftop gazing at another mans naked wife. He wasn’t prepared and he wasn’t where he was supposed to be. So let us learn for King David’s example and not fall into the same pit as him and let us be lead by the one true King triumphantly into battle.

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved…” – 2 Corinthians 2:14,15

We are men of God and need remember to stand with each other and fight for our faith and our families. The battle isn’t going away until Jesus returns. So be on guard and on the front lines. Read the Word daily, pray without ceasing and seek first the kingdom of heaven above all else. Let us put our minds on the things above and keep our eyes on Jesus. He is our victory and our prize.

We are in this together.
